50 pups seek homes

NEEDING to find homes for more than 50 puppies rescued off the streets, a non-government organization dedicated to promoting canine welfare, will hold an adoption drive in Subang Jaya tomorrow.

Community Development and Integration Initiative (CDII), which spearheaded the Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better (MDDB) project, will have its adoption drive at the Summit Subang Jaya complex.

CDII director Firoza Burha-nudeen said the adoption drive was being held to find suitable homes for adorable puppies which had all been vaccinated and given a clean bill of health by the project’s consultant veterinarians.

“We have puppies ranging from two to five months old, as well as several dogs which will make good family guard dogs, for adoption,” Firoza said.

She urged dog lovers to give these homeless puppies a chance in life rather than buying a pet.

“Why buy when you can adopt from us for free? We will also ensure that our adopters pay a lower rate for neutering since they have given our puppies a second chance in life,” she added.

Firoza said all the older dogs had been neutered and vaccinated and those adopting them would be spared the trouble of having to arrange for these procedures for their pets.

“All they will have to do is get the dog its yearly vaccination booster starting from next year,” she added.

Firoza said the MDDB project had also embarked on a trap, neuter and release programme and would be raising funds for it at the event.

“Under this project, stray dogs are captured and neutered before being released in areas where there are feeding stations,” she said.

She added that volunteers and Good Samaritans ensured the dogs were fed daily at the feeding stations.

“This way, the dogs stay in one particular area where their presence is accepted and their population would not increase as they have been neutered,” she added.

She said so far, several dogs in Klang had been neutered and released and were doing well under the care of a resident who fed them daily.

A similar project had also been carried out in Kuala Kubu Baru recently by a MDDB coordinator who lives there.

Firoza said the next move would be to engage in a dialogue with the local councils to involve them, too, in the project.

Meanwhile, Firoza urged supporters, well-wishers as well as potential adopters to attend the event at the Summit Subang Jaya tomorrow.

“We will be stationed at the Dome Café entrance in front of Starbucks with our puppies. We are also hoping to arrange some activities for our visitors.

“Please visit us and give us the support we badly need,” she added.
